YOU are the Change!

“Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi

We live busy lives in a busy time. We give our all to our careers and families, and often spend so much time taking care of others that there is little left over to take care of ourselves. And when we do allow time for ourselves, we often feel guilty that we should be doing something else instead.

Did you know that when you take time to better yourself you also make the world a better place? This past week I have been reminded that personal changes we undertake will not only have a positive impact on us, but on those around us as well.

I am constantly inspired by our fitness family here at Breakthrough, and this week I learned a special lesson by listening to the stories being shared by our members participating in our Drop Two Sizes Challenge. Not only are the Challenge members making positive changes and getting great results, they are becoming sources of inspiration and change for those around them.

Unfortunately there can often be negative push back in some of our relationships when we make personal changes. Maybe your family will complain if you start cooking healthier meals? Maybe your friends or family will make you feel guilty about changing up your schedule to make time to start exercising? Maybe your co-workers will tease you for bringing your lunch to work instead of going out like you used to? Maybe your friends will look at you sideways if you only have one drink at a party?

The good news is that there is a flip side to this, although it may take some time to reveal itself. Here are some real life examples shared from our Down Two Sizes coaching group this week:

A couple of the ladies were discussing how their husbands (who are not participating in the challenge) have also lost weight and are starting to cook differently when it’s their turn for dinner duty. A group of co-workers who are doing the challenge together started taking turns bringing healthy lunches to work to share, and now other people in the office have started to join in. A couple of people have been supplementing their time in the gym with home workouts, and have gotten friends who weren’t training before to start exercising with them. Fantastic stuff!!

Next time you feel overwhelmed by the negative, take a minute to find one way that the changes you are making for yourself are inspiring someone else you know. It only takes a spark to start a fire. You have the power to make positive changes for yourself and the world around you. When you decide to change your life, who else’s life will you also change?

Strength and Love!
